This digital painting was done in a variety of programs. The last step was adding textures to give it a more painterly appearance. It's called Cygnus X-1 because it resembles the event horizon of a black hole as matter spirals in toward the center. Unable to escape the pull of gravity, the matter whirls headlong toward the black hole to be destroyed. This piece is colorful, bold, and unusual and was especially designed for those who love astronomy, space, and black holes.
