The triskelion is a complex ancient Celtic symbol of spirituality. It is one of the most convoluted to decipher as symbolists believe it reflects many areas of culture from the time.
The triple spiral represents motion as all three arms are positioned to make it appear to be moving outwards from its center, signifying energetic actions, cycles, progress, revolution, and competition. But in symbology, the significance of the triskelion can have different periodic, cultural, mythological, and historical representations. It can symbolize the inner and outer worlds, the unity of mental, physical, and spiritual self, and the themes of birth, death, and rebirth. Some other connotations include spirit-mind-body, mother-father-child, past-present-future, power-intellect-love, and creation-preservation-destruction, to name but a few. The motion and symbol meanings of the triskelion make it diverse.
The artwork displays those two meanings when the “loading flower” is transformed into a three-cornered rotation triangle of colorful swirls. The action of the triskelion shows how continuous it cycles for any symbolic representation. It is a symbol that illustrates a life process in many areas as one.
