This is a photograph of a Dahlia dinner plate flower. I grew this Dahlia in my own garden in a pot specifically to photograph in 2022. I planted the tuber in late May in a greenhouse and brought the plant outside when the risk of frost had gone. I decided to produce this image with a double exposure to create the shadows around the petals. It was shot against a backlit translucent reflector and lit from the side with a diffuse light source. It took a number of hours and experimentation to capture what I was looking for.
