The Elements collection features two video works by Heidi Locher, which combine the artist’s architectural and artistic interests. Together the two works, Composure and Seduction, explore the intersection between identity formation and the city by contrasting liquid and solid forms. The artist examines fluidity and rigidity together, in doing so allowing them to distort and reveal one another’s properties. Viewed through water, metal and glass take on a fluidity; submerged in liquid, the solid and liquid properties of the human body are shown in tension. In this way Elements considers the place of the body within architectural systems which simultaneously restrict movement and provide spaces for escape.
