English artist Darren Almond (b. 1971) is fascinated by time; the ticking clock, the frozen instant – moments in time anchored by place, personal significance or the weight of collective memory. Through diverse media including film, installation, sculpture, works on paper, and photography, the artist interrogates these notions to produce works that question the nature of individual experience.

A video of a moving train, a live studio broadcast projected in an otherwise empty gallery space, a kinetic sculpture of a giant digital clock, Almond's works illustrate that it is impossible for the artist to conceive of time and space without acknowledging the centrality of the human subject – the psychological epicenter between time and place, personal experience and universal resonance.

Almond's works are represented in numerous international collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Saatchi Collection, London; the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin; and the Kramlich Collection, Miami. He was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2005 and awarded the Art & Innovation Prize by the Institute of Contemporary Art, London, in 1997. Darren Almond lives and works in London.
