Introduction

Ella Lugin is a multidisciplinary Swiss artist whose journey spans classical and modern dance, painting, photography, and motion art. Her passion for movement, dramaturgy, and aesthetics runs as a clear thread through her life and work, blending beauty with centered structure, and a contemporary visual language.

During her career as a dancer, Ella Lugin (artist name Maithano) began painting in the 1980s. She balanced the world of show business with her artistic practice, which culminated in her final solo exhibition at the renowned Galerie Wehrli in Zurich in 2000.

After transitioning away from painting, she began exploring digital art, developing a body of fine art photography that reflected her evolving visual language. She then opened a photography studio in Zurich before discovering motion art in 2020.

The extended stay in Southeast Asia from mid-2025 inspires new works, influenced by the ocean, lush nature, and Asian architecture.
