Imran Qureshi's Green Water is a beautifully idyllic work that conveys the ease engendered by a rippling pool of coloured water, under the watchful gaze of the artist. Drawing attention to the visual embrace of the silhouette of the temporary scaffolding over this enclosed water feature, Qureshi films what is essentially a very simple scene – the embodiment of his diary pieces – that by merit of his imagination gives lift to new paths, new directions. Qureshi emphasises the abstract as opposition to order in this work, and more widely touches upon the social and historical significance of water and the garden in India and Pakistan during the Mughal Empire; when in Europe and Asia it was incorporated into the social architecture of all public spaces.
