Coastal Clouds
About this artwork

Coastal Clouds is an artwork by Maximilian Glas presented as part of Fabrica Frame Vol.2, the second collection of digital artworks created by artists taking part in the Fabrica Residency at Fabrica, the research centre set up in Treviso, Italy following the vision of Luciano Benetton and Oliviero Toscani. The launch follows the release of Fabrica's first collection, Fabrica Frame.

Coastal Clouds reflects on the poetic metaphor of the cloud in technological contexts, where it is used to veil the vast complexity of on-demand availability of computer system resources.

The predecessor of the internet was developed and tested on the east and west coast of the United States and the metaphor of the cloud was first used here in 1977. For the artwork, found footage showing storm clouds from these regions was digitally processed and converted into a continuous indefinite haze.
