About this artwork
Waiting at Dinner is a moving image work which is part of the Waiting collection of ten works, each of which is created to seamlessly and continuously loop.
The collection was largely inspired by the works of the Danish Modernism and Expressionism movement, in particular the work of Carl Holsøe and Vilhelm Hammershøi.
The unseen face is almost ubiquitous in Danish painting of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The subjects invested with stillness, grace and poise seem to be engaged in something that the viewer can only guess at. In this work, the subject’s purpose appears to be a mystery until the reason for their attention becomes obvious.
